Brooklyn 4, New York: Lyrical Voices is a collection of narrative poems based on the experiences of early twentieth-century emigrants who came to America with little more than hope. It is a lyrical sharing of their American adventure in a unique time in mid-century New York City.
The vignettes paint memorable people, places, and moments from a unique time in mid-century New York City. The Lyrical Voices are those of immigrants who arrived from throughout Europe and beyond to settle in Manhattan (“the city” to native New Yorkers). Ellis Island was the gateway for many and Lower Manhattan became home to the families who came to America in search of a better life.
