Inspiring Writers, Building a Community Together
Gulf Coast Writers Association exists to support and connect writers of all backgrounds, skill levels, and genres. Whether writing for personal fulfillment or professional pursuit, all are welcome into a community that promotes fellowship, education, and creative growth.
From modest beginnings to a vibrant community of writers, GCWA remains rooted in its founding vision: to provide a home where writers can learn, connect, and thrive.
Our Mission
The mission of the GCWA is to promote the welfare and spirit of writers by encouraging both members and the broader community to pursue writing—whether for joy, compensation, or both. GCWA recognizes writing as both a personal journey and a shared experience, and is committed to nurturing each step along the way.
Our Vision
GCWA envisions becoming the leading community for writers along the Gulf Coast—a place where inspiration flows freely, voices are empowered, and every writer has access to the tools, support, and fellowship needed to grow and thrive. The organization strives to spark joy in writers around the world.

Who We Are
Gulf Coast Writers Association (GCWA) provides a forum for fellowship, education, and information-sharing among writers in the community. The organization promotes writer welfare and spirit by encouraging both members and non-members to pursue writing—whether for personal fulfillment or professional compensation.
Founded in 1995, incorporated in 2004, and granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2006, GCWA has steadily grown in both size and impact. As of April 2013, the organization included more than 200 members. Its Executive Committee is composed of eight officers, elected annually in March, who manage the organization’s daily operations. In compliance with IRS 501(c)(3) requirements, the Corporate Board of Directors includes four officers who each serve a three-year term.
GCWA also partners with other literary organizations to amplify the voices of writers throughout the community.
Our Leadership
GCWA is led by an Executive Committee composed of eight dedicated officers who are elected annually in March. This team oversees the day-to-day management of the association, plans events, facilitates workshops, and coordinates writing contests to support members’ growth and engagement.
In accordance with IRS nonprofit regulations, GCWA also maintains a Corporate Board of Directors. This board consists of four officers, each serving a three-year term, and provides oversight to ensure the organization’s mission remains focused, ethical, and sustainable for the long term.
