The Key to Author Success
May 16
Anne and Robert Jacob
FAPA and Popin Edits:

Professional Collaboration – the Key to Author Success
There are many times in life when people seek out professionals without hesitation. Medical, legal, and construction services are obvious examples, but one might also consider nail technicians, hair stylists, and barbers. However, online programs, including AI, have lured many authors into the mindset of, “I can do everything myself.” As a result, potentially outstanding books often fall short simply because the author took shortcuts. In addition to tips on finding fair, knowledgeable, and qualified professionals, this presentation will provide authors with a thorough understanding of industry standards and the book award scoring processes used by organizations such as the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.
- Understanding the Book Industry Standards
- Finding Highly Qualified, Collaborative Professional
- Entering Contests and Awards
- Question-and-Answer Session
Anne Jacob holds a Master of Arts in Education with double National Board Certification. After retiring from a successful teaching career, Anne launched her author-friendly editing service, Popin Edits. With skillful attention to detail and a knack for providing painless constructive criticism, Anne works closely with each author to accurately express their intent while keeping their voice, resulting in a professional, uniquely crafted manuscript. Additionally, she is president of the Florida Authors and Publishers Association, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to empowering authors and publishing professionals to elevate book industry standards.
Robert Jacob, Chief Warrant Officer 5 USMC Retired, is the author of three award-winning books on pirate history. He has been interviewed on multiple podcasts and television shows, participated in hundreds of in-person history events, and inducted into the International Pirate Hall of Fame. A former president and current board member of the Florida Authors and Publishers Association, Robert enjoys sharing his experiences and knowledge of the book industry with writers’ groups throughout Florida.
