About Gulf Coast Writers Association of Mississippi
The Gulf Coast Writers Association of Mississippi (GCWA) was founded in 1986. Our purpose is to encourage and inspire local writers throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast regional area. From people who dream of writing their very first story or poem, to experienced published authors, GCWA welcomes members who share the joy of the written word.
Officers are volunteers from the local community, and participate out of love and dedication to the craft of writing. We operate as a not-for-profit organization. The funds collected cover operating and publishing expenses.
The Gulf Coast Writers Association invites you to participate in an interesting, informative, and inspiring organization. Membership benefits include monthly General Meetings, held in Mississippi's Gulf Coast area.
GCWA publishes The Magnolia Quarterly (MQ), as well as as a newsletter with regular updates. Our magazine includes many articles on a variety of writing topics, from creative writing to how to publish your work. The articles are informative and written by a variety of professionals in the writing & publishing fields. Updates on local events and information on writing contests are also included.
One of the most important aspects of the MQ is to give members a forum to have their work published. Original poetry & stories of reasonable length are welcome for submission by GCWA members. Manuscripts received will be respectfully managed. In addition, many of the works submitted will also be included in our "Featured Submissions" section of our website.
Our Association also sponsors the nationally recognized "Let's Write" Literary Contest, which accepts unpublished poems and short stories from authors all around the US. This is an annual event which has been held for over 20 years.
